Amrhein’s opens.
1890
Operated by German immigrant Adam Amrhein, it is located at 80 West Broadway. Originally a small restaurant in a boardinghouse, it is operated by the Amrhein family until 1967, when it is purchased by longshoreman Joe Mulrey, who expands it by buying the adjacent funeral home. Said to house the first hand-carved bar and the first draft beer pump in Boston, the restaurant is currently owned and operated by Joe’s son, Steve.
